Right under the sky

Life is sometimes claustrophobic. There are times when our worlds close in and no longer allow us the space that is peace and quiet. The walls of our everyday life approach as suddenly and unannounced as the first impenetrable August darkness. The obvious in a breath suddenly feels foreign and the air no longer seems to fill our lungs. This place has no return. We can only leave it through farewell and progress. In hopelessness, it is important to find something that gives us at least the illusion of a brightening. A pastime, a companion, an object that symbolizes tomorrow. Something that helps us overcome our doubts. The opposite of claustrophobia, the open form. For some it is a photograph from childhood, for some it may be Arvo Pärt's Spiegel im Spiegel, for another it is Stig Dagerman's Autumn. Or perhaps it is the branches of a leafless tree meeting the sky.
