There is a difference between forest and woodland. In an old-growth forest, it is not tidy and the trees do not stand in straight rows. On the contrary, it is messy and teeming with life, in a natural cycle where all organisms fulfill their important function.
In Still Living Forests, we wander into forests that are threatened with extinction, and learn about what is being lost. Journalist Pelle Svensson describes the fragile thread on which life in old-growth forests balances and interviews the enthusiasts who are passionate about preserving natural forests. In fantastic, innovative images by Roine Magnusson, we see natural forests throughout Sweden that are difficult to reach, and therefore difficult to experience, and in John Hallmén's unique macro images, we also get to know insects and plants we didn't know existed. We meet 600-year-old pine trees that have survived countless large forest fires but still give life to thousands of animals, plants and organisms. We learn what happens to these trees after death, because the circle of life doesn't end just because the trunk is on the ground.
